I think it's standard in united states elementary schools to get a tour of a firetruck, and this long talk from the firemen, where they put on all their protective gear right in front of you. It's meant to not be scary, in case you ever wake up in the middle of the night and see one of them in your room you're not supposed to hide, but instead let this costumed, axe carrying man pick you up and take you wherever he likes.

Damn, where was that standard when I was in school?
And of course, any costumed person stating that they are working for the beenefit of the community and possibly the government should be able to do just about anything to get you to 'safety'. Even if it means waiting in a black van and tempting you with oodles of delicious candies and snacks.
